ChatGPT Go: OpenAI Has A New $5.00 Subscription Tier

OpenAI has launched a new subscription tier named ChatGPT Go. It costs less than USD 5.00 per month, and it offers everything users get with the free version of ChatGPT and extended limits and access to core and chat features. Note that a ChatGPT Plus subscription is priced at USD 20.00 per month, and the ChatGPT Pro tier costs USD 200.00 per month.

ChatGPT Go is currently limited to the Indian market. This country has one of the largest user bases of OpenAI. Introducing a more affordable subscription tier indicates that the company has factored in cost-sensitive markets to increase adoption. Reports suggest that OpenAI intends to monitor adoption trends before considering a rollout in other countries.

The plan includes all features offered in the free version of ChatGPT, while providing expanded capabilities. These are extended GPT_5 access, image generation, higher file upload capacity, and expanded data analysis. The tier also allows for longer contextual memory to enable personalized responses for users, and access to projects, tasks, and custom GPTs.

ChatGPT Go has limitations compared to ChatGPT Plus. It does not provide access to GPT-4o legacy models. Connectors, which integrate the chatbot with third-party services such as Google Drive and GitHub, are not included. Advanced tools like Sora video creation and autonomous Deep Research features are also excluded from this entry-level subscription package.

Industry analysts note that ChatGPT Go is strategically positioned to attract casual and mid-level users who desire more than the free plan provides but do not require advanced professional-grade features. The affordability of 399 rupees per month makes it accessible to a broader range of individuals and small businesses in markets sensitive to high subscription fees.

The new entry-level tier signals an intent to make generative AI tools accessible beyond wealthier markets. India is home to a large and tech-driven population. It serves as a good testing ground for gauging consumer interest in lower-cost AI solutions. The more affordable subscription tier is also aimed at competing with free alternatives like DeepSeek and Grok.
