Trump Faces Declining Favorability Among AAPI Adults—June 2025 Poll

A recent survey conducted by AAPI Data and the Associated Press-NORC Center has revealed a notable decline in the favorability of Donald Trump among Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander adults. The poll, which was held between June 3 and June 11 of 2025, interviewed 1130 respondents nationwide in multiple languages.

The poll found that 71 percent of AAPI adults now view Trump negatively. This is a sharp increase from 60 percent recorded in December 2024. The shift is exceptionally striking among AAPI independents, where unfavorable ratings rose by about 21 percentage points. The following are the detailed findings from the June 2025 survey:

• Decline in Favorability Among AAPI Adults: The survey showed a significant rise in unfavorable views of Donald Trump among Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander adults. Unfavorable ratings increased from 60 percent in December 2024 to 71 percent in June 2025. This indicates a marked shift in sentiment within this demographic over a relatively short period.

• Greater Disapproval Among AAPI Independents: Independent voters within the AAPI community displayed an even sharper change. Their unfavorable perception of Trump rose by about 20 percentage points, reaching around 70 percent. This level of disapproval among AAPI independents exceeds that of independents in the general U.S. population, where unfavorable views are about 52 percent.

• Economic Policies Viewed Negatively: A large majority of respondents, nearly 80 percent, believe that the tariff policies will increase consumer prices. Less than half think tariffs will aid domestic manufacturing, and only about one-fifth expect them to create new jobs. These findings highlight significant skepticism about the economic benefits of the trade measures of the administration.

• High Concern About Recession Among AAPI Adults: 65 percent of AAPI respondents reported being very or extremely worried about an economic recession. This figure surpasses the 53 percent concern level among the broader U.S. adult population. Rising inflation, with consumer prices increasing 2.7 percent year over year in June, contributes to heightened financial anxiety.

Take note that the poll addressed the frequent underrepresentation of AAPI perspectives in U.S. surveys by conducting interviews in multiple languages and ensuring demographic representation. This approach provided nuanced insights into AAPI political attitudes and offered a clearer picture of shifts that might otherwise be overlooked in mainstream polling.

Nevertheless, while the focus was on AAPI adults, the results align with national trends. The overall disapproval toward Trump hovered near 59 percent in recent months. Analysts suggest that dissatisfaction among AAPI voters mirrors, and in some cases intensifies, nationwide discontent with the economic and social policies of the Trump administration.
