Warner Partners With Suno—The AI Startup It Previously Sued

Warner Music Group and Suno officially announced a landmark partnership on 25 November 2025. The deal aims to combine the generative AI music capabilities of Sino with the extensive artist catalog and development resources of Warner.

The collaboration also resolves prior litigation regarding AI-generated music rights between the two companies.

One of the terms of the agreement involves requiring artists and songwriters affiliated with Warner to provide explicit consent for the use of their name, likeness, voice, and compositions in AI-generated music produced by Suno.

The agreement notes that it prioritizes artist control to ensure creators retain authority over how their intellectual property is utilized.

Suno will introduce advanced licensed AI models in 2026 that will replace existing models that currently power music generation. Free users will retain streaming access but will no longer be able to download tracks without a paid subscription.

Paid accounts will include monthly download allowances and options for additional purchases.

The partnership also includes the acquisition of Songkick, the live-music and concert discovery platform, by Suno from Warner Music Group.

Suno intends to maintain Songkick as a fan-focused destination and plans to integrate AI-generated music experiences with live events to create a comprehensive platform connecting artists and audiences through multiple channels.

Warner Music Group described the deal as a major step toward a licensed and pro-artist AI music ecosystem.

The company emphasized that the partnership aims to generate new revenue streams for creators while providing fans and independent musicians with innovative tools to engage with music and explore creative possibilities.

Note that the partnership reflects a rapid shift in the music industry. Warner moves from litigation to what it considers a more reasonable partnership.

The decision to forego the lawsuit against Suno suggests confidence in the long-term viability of AI-generated content and signals a new era of collaboration between legacy record labels and technology startups and the embrace of generative AI.

Suno raised 250 million U.S. dollars at a 2.45 billion U.S. dollar valuation before the partnership. This highlights investor optimism regarding AI-generated music.

The deal may serve as a model for other labels. It demonstrates that licensing agreements and monetization strategies can replace extended legal disputes over generative AI content. But it still raises questions about accessibility, control, and the future of creative labor.
